A next generation internet virus has been discovered that can e-mail
confidential data to news groups used by pornographers and hackers.

The PolyPoster infection is a macro virus which targets Microsoft Word
documents and randomly posts the files in Public Usenet newsgroups.

The virus is able to generate a message duplicating the user's name and
e-mail details, while attaching an attention-grabbing heading to the file
Once distributed on the internet the posted files spread the infection
still further when opened.

One internet security group claims that PolyPoster represents a taste of
things to come, where virus authors will increasingly use the internet to
spread their digital plagues. The company warned, "This is just the
begining. We will see viruses with similar, but more advanced
features in the future"
