The controversy surrounding the European Parliament's
proposal to ban web caching took an odd turn this week.


The UK Department of Trade and Industry minister,
Michael Wills, claimed that laws prohibiting caching
already exists but are ignored by business.


He said that the UK 1998 Copyright Act already
prohibits the unauthorised reproduction of copyright
material on-line.
