IE Script Virus Update | ||||||||||||||||||||
|
Alarm that Internet Explorer could spread large-scale web-site infections has broken out, following the discovery of the first ever HTML virus. The bug, which does not affect Netscape, Opera, Compuserve or other browsers except IE, attaches itself to any HTML file it finds. When these files are read by IE the virus replicates into other HTML files, using Visual Basic to search the local system and modify its targets. The process repeats every time IE looks at an infected file. The Moscow Lab with identified the bug compaired it to the recent Winscript.Rabbit, because it uses scripts rather than binary code to work its mischief. Whilst the virus has not caused any damage so far new types may eventually become malicious. The virus only affect IE because of its dependancy on Visual Basic. |
